Building a farmhouse table has long been a desire of mine. Then one day, standing in my shop, wondering what to build next....
I began looking intently at a stack of sand pine, a beautiful southern pine that is harder than your typical southern yellow pine. It is also far more beautiful, yellows and reds through the grain. Florida grown trees produce some wild looking lumber.
So we began to man handle these stout and rustic planks. I had no intention whatsoever to clean them up much. I could see the beauty in them as they were.
To keep that rustic pioneer look and feel we put the frame together with a series of half lap joints, then locked it all together with oak pegs.
The top we fastened down using antique reproduction cut nails. Then finally we finished it with my own hommade blend of antique oil.
The final product, a robust and bold farmhouse table that is certain to be a rustic one of a kind. I really enjoyed making this table, look for more farmhouse tables in the future, the next one witll have more of a French country look and feel.
