It is always nerve wracking, at least to an extent, when a customer calls and asks me to custom make a piece for them. Once the initial excitement has passed, then my mind begins to wonder, "What if they don't like what I have created?"
In this particular case, the customer did send a picture giving me the general idea of what he wanted and then gave me great liberty to work out the details on my own. I have to admit that I do prefer having this liberty, I just hate the overwhelming feeling that tends to randomly overcome me when considering that the customer might hate what I have made.
Fortunately, the gentlemen that I had the privilege to make this computer desk top for was well pleased with the finished product. This desk top was made from several pieces of scrap maple laminated together. Then shaped by hand to the current shape and condition you see in the photos.
Overall I am happy with the outcome, but more importantly, I am happy that the customer is happy with the outcome! During the delivery to his research lab at the University of Central Florida, we had a great conversation about Jesus Christ and mans great need to trust in him!
Now the best part of making this type of desktop is that this maple panel had to be cut to length leaving me a few nice sized panels that I foresee turning into end tables in the near future.
The Carpenters son.
